Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy is a wonderful time for a woman, although with it comes many changes to the expectant mother's body. Pregnancy massage can be of enormous benefit, not only to the mother, but also her unborn baby as increases in the flow of essential nutrients and 'feel good' endorphins released by the mother during massage are passed on to the baby.

Research has shown that receiving regular massage during pregnancy can help prepare the mother's body for birth, often resulting in shorter and easier labours due to an increased release of oxytocin (a pain reducing hormone) and can lead to increased breast feeding success due to increased prolactin and mammary development.

As well as the benefits of improved relaxation, stress reduction, maintaining balanced blood pressure and enhancing the mother's relationship with her unborn baby, pregnancy massage can be used to alleviate or relieve a range of pregnancy related symptoms such as:

  • back and other musculo-skeletal pains & tensions
  • leg cramps
  • swollen wrists, ankles & feet
  • shortness of breath
  • morning sickness & nausea
  • fatigue
  • constipation & haemorrhoids
  • stretch marks
  • varicose vein development

Our pregnancy massage treatments are of 1 hour duration, during which time we will provide a full body massage, with focus on any area's requiring specific attention. Abdominal massage is optional during this treatment, based on your own preferences, but is generally considered to be a relaxing and soothing experience for your baby.

We also provide a package whereby 6 pregnancy massage treatments can be paid for in advance for £225 (usual cost: £270). Just let us know if you would like to take advantage of this offer when getting in touch.

In line with UK law on maternity care, we require your G.P. or midwife to provide written confirmation that pregnancy massage is a suitable complementary treatment for you. Please contact us so we can forward you a form to take to your G.P. / midwife for this purpose.

Having regard to safe working practices, pregnancy massage should only be conducted by a therapist qualified to perform pregnancy massage. My Practitioners Diploma in Pregnancy Massage / Abdominal and Full Body is available on request.
